The Underage Drinking Prevention Task Force:
The Underage Drinking Prevention Task Force was started after a Town Hall Meeting in 2006 revealed much community interest in prevention of underage drinking. The Task Force took the ideas from the initial town hall meeting and the top choices of reducing youth access to alcohol and decreasing parents providing alcohol to youth as interventions to preventing underage drinking in the Zion-Benton Community. The Task Force had its first meeting in January 2007.
Accomplishments of the Task Force include:
Letter campaigns to hotels, churches, and alcohol vendors to promote healthy prom and graduation celebrations. A Summer Resource Guide for families in 2007 with community camps and low cost options for Zion-Benton area parents. Parent Survey at the Zion-Benton Township High School in the Fall of 2008 to determine local parent views on underage drinking. A Town Hall Meeting in 2008 in conjunction with the Healthy YOUth Program at Z-BTHS and family meal boxes created to promote positive family conversation at meal-time.
