Sticker Shock - 2011
Did you notice any new stickers in your local liquor department? Well, that is because 35 Healthy YOUth students along with 8 adult volunteers were out in full force with Project Sticker Shock on Wednesday April 20th. Project Sticker Shock is a state-wide initiative for underage drinking awareness and prevention.
The program in the Zion, Winthrop Harbor and Beach Park communities is sponsored by the Coalition for Healthy Communities and Zion-Benton’s Healthy YOUth Program. The students in Healthy YOUth developed their own slogan, “What are you thinking, STOP underage drinking.” This slogan is on the back of all of their Healthy YOUth t-shirts.
The sticker shock campaign included stickers with the STOP slogan for all packaged alcohol, window clings for the refrigerator cases and doors and new this year; bottle hangers for the bottles of alcohol and buttons for all of the store clerks to wear. Thank you to the following stores for their participation in this year’s event: Zion Walgreens, Zion Jewel-Osco, Zion CVS, Winthrop Harbor Marathon, Winthrop Harbor G and G Pantry, Beach Park Mini-Mart, Beach Park CVS, Beach Park Walgreens, Beach Park Cardinal Liquors.
The Healthy YOUth program is made possible by funding through a Drug Free Communities and STOP Act Grant in partnership with the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center and the Coalition for Healthy Communities.
