Coalition Celebrates Success at Annual Banquet
The Coalition for Healthy Communities held their annual banquet on Wednesday, May 18th to honor the Zion-Benton communities and the immense support they provide the Coalition throughout the year. The Coalition presented three awards to highlight the contributions of its special students, members, and organizations:
Outstanding Healthy YOUth Student went to Vidal Anguiano, a senior who has been in Healthy YOUth for 3 years and is going on to University of Chicago in the fall.

The Coalition Member of the Year Award was given to Dr. John Ahlgrim who is the Vice President of the Coalition and very involved in the Literacy and Substance Abuse Prevention work groups.

Outstanding Community Support was awarded to the Lake County Health Department who has been a partner with the Coalition since 1997 and has been awarded one state and two federal grants totaling 1.8 million dollars for substance abuse prevention in the Zion-Benton communities. The current grants in partnership with the Coalition are the Drug Free Communities and STOP Act (Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking) grants. The Drug Free Communities Program is housed in Zion at Pearce Campus and staffed by Liane Blanck and Sarah Wright along with Kelly Martinez and supervised by Kris Andersen.
